Clinical Decision Support and Evidence-Based Medicine
In modern healthcare specialty practices, clinical calculators are essential for evidence-based medicine (EBM). These tools provide standardized methods for assessing patient risk and metabolic function.
1. eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate)
The MDRD Equation is used to estimate kidney function. A GFR below 60 mL/min/1.73 m² for three months or more may indicate Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
2. Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP)
MAP is considered the average arterial pressure during a single cardiac cycle. It is a vital indicator of organ perfusion. A MAP of at least 65 mmHg is generally required to sustain vital organs.
3. CHADS₂-VASc Score
This clinical prediction rule estimates the risk of stroke in patients with non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). Higher scores suggest a greater need for anticoagulation therapy.
